WILDERNESS SPRING BLACK BEAR

The camp is excellent. Stay in a lodge with a hot tub. We can take non-hunting wives at additional cost. Outfitter takes ten to eleven hunts at a time and his guides are all excellent, one guide for two hunters. There is a chance to do some spot and stalk but plan on setting on a bait and we recommend you bring a book to read. Be as still as possible and you more than likely will see a Bear before you hear him. This is a great hunt!

Baiting

His tree stands are 12 to 14 feet high. Bow hunters can plan on 15 to 20 yard shots and we recommend bows with 50 pounds pull or greater. Gun hunters sit no more than 50 yards from their bait and Stephen will tell you to bring your favorite rifle, bow or muzzle loader.

The hunting occurs in May-June when the Bears are first out of their dens. Their fur at this time is thick and long. Most of the hunting occurs over baits, but spot and stalk hunts can be arranged. Bill Snodgrass is tentatively planning on making a professional video. Join us!

Hunters fly into High Level or Grande Prairie, Alberta where they are picked up and taken to the hunting area. Accommodations are in tent camps or motels. All prices are subject to change without notice!

SPOT & STALK TWO BEAR LIMIT

Great Bow Hunt!

Our guide in British Columbia boasts nearly a perfect record of getting both rifle hunters and bow hunters their Bears. You will take horses, boat or truck to a vantage point overlooking a relatively open Bear feeding area.

In the spring the Bears feed on grass along slide areas and stream banks that have been flooded. Our key areas in the fall are ripening berries and oat fields which draw the Bears.

You will be able to select the Bear you want and put a stalk on it, and our guides know a big Bear. A mature Bear's legs will appear short with small ears and a big head.

Wind plays a very big factor with this hunt and it is important that you progress slowly and quietly. Bow hunters need to be able to shoot out to 30 yards. Six foot Bears are common and one of our hunters took a high 7' and a second 8' Bear.

This hunt takes place in British Columbia and the outfitter is one of our best. It is a two Bear area and he gets some big Bears, plus a high percentage are color phase. You will be hunting the spring of the year working different drainages and glassing slide areas for Bear. One of our hunters saw 30 Bears in 5 days. The hunt begins in Prince George, B.C. Second Bear is a $700 trophy fee.

Hunt Price:

Spring/Fall Black Bear

5 days 1 guide 1 hunter, $2,795

5 days 2 hunters 1 guide, $ 2,195

Harvest fee for second bear $750

Hunt two Black Bear Eastern Canada

( No See Return Free)

The hunting territory is bordering the province of New-Brunswick and the Rimouski Wildlife Preserve. The latter is known for having the largest concentration of black bear in this part of Quebec. Under a special agreement with the government the lodge is the only lodge allowed to organize black bear hunts in the Rimouski Wildlife Preserve. The hunting territory covers over 350 square miles with exclusive hunting rights.

All of this territory is accessible by road. Baits are carefully set up and checked by professional and experienced guides who assure successful bear hunting. The guides will carefully prepare several hunting sites early in May. Many of the sites are specifically intended for bow and crossbow hunters. For 2003 season, we were running over 100 baiting stations. Often, we can see over 4 to 5 bears per station. Gary Stutz saw 21 bears during his hunt.

Black bear hunting is a hunt of the latter part of the afternoon and early part of the night. Your guide will drive you for your hunting site. They are baiting sites daily, so that you will be driven to active sites only. Once your animal is downed they will take care of the animal and prepare the hide for you.

To fill in your days they suggest that you bring your fishing gear (fly fishing or spinning gear) and fish one of the lakes for brook trout. Non bear hunters fishing runs $125 per day includes lodging and meals. Those that buy a one bear hunt if you decide to fish the cost is included, license $35.

.The spring season is also a good time of the year for Canada moose observations. Indeed, moose are then moving from their winter yards to their summer range and also that the cows are chasing their past year offspring before giving birth to the new calves generation. It is not uncommon to see several animals on the same day while on the way to the bear hunting sites.

Hunts To Remember the TV wing of Snodgrass Big Game Hunts, Inc. We filmed a TV show that will air on The Sportsman channel. You can order a copy this TV show along with 3 other shows for $20.00. Call and get your copy 800-868-1119. Bill Snodgrass killed two bears with his bow and rates this as one of the best Black Bear hunts in the East. It is the only TWO BEAR HUNT WE KNOW OF! Price wise this hunt a better priced hunt then a TWO BEAR HUNT in Alberta or British Columbia. We had several clients with us and all the hunters saw bear. The lodge was nice and the food outstanding. The owners have enlarged lodge and this will give clients more room during the down time when not hunting,

As is the case with 95% of all spring hunts you do not hunt the mornings. There is more then one reason you don’t hunt the mornings. You will leave camp around 2:30 to 3:30 pm depending on how far from camp you have to drive. You must then set until dark. By the time you get back to camp it will be late and most guys want to sleep in the morning. If someone kills a bear and you recover it that night it means you may get back very late. Also remember if you bought the two bear hunt you can go fishing in the mornings for brook trout.

Skinning and trophy preparation are included in the cost but don’t forget to tip your guide.

Arrive on Sunday depart on depart Sat morning. Hunts begins the end of May and finish the end of June!

This is stand hunting and you need to be quite and careful about your scent. Some people do not like to stay in the stand. Black Bear are very quite you can be looking one way and look back and there will be a bear at the bait This is a exciting hunt. One thing you must understand is the owners do not want to give away free return trips so they are going to do there best to put you on a stand were bears are feeding.

The way the two bear hunt works is you hunt in Quebec for one bear and hunt in New Brunswick for the second bear. ·Bear hunting license not included.

Grizzly Bear New hunt 2006

Brown Bear Hunting

Kill two Brown Bear on the same hunt!

BROWN BEAR SPECIAL….Black River Hunting Camps will be venturing into some new country beginning the fall of 2006. The brown bear harvest limit is TWO BEARS PER YEAR!! There are only two areas in the state of Alaska that have such liberal bag limits. This hunt will be offered at a rate of $8000.00 for the first bear; and after the first bear is harvested there will be a $1000.00 daily rate to hunt for a second bear. Hunters may hunt one extra day or for the entire duration of their scheduled hunt total cost for two bears $12,000. This hunt will be operated from tent base camps and involve lots of glassing for traveling game. We are very excited at the prospect of guiding hunters towards two brown bears in a single hunt. Bears will average between 7’-9’, with some larger bears in the area. Contact BRHC for details about this hunt!!

Kodiak brown bear hunting is done on the northern end of the famed Kodiak Island . We hunt what is referred to as “the road system” (however we do not actually hunt on the road, unless requested!). These are the only over the counter bear tags on Kodiak Island . This is a fly-out, backpacking hunt with the possibility of bears in excess of 10’! Since this hunt is not as exclusive as some drawing hunts, BRHC is offering this hunt at a very competitive price of $9500. This hunt is a great chance for hunters who are on a budget and still dream of hunting the “Emerald Isle”. This hunt takes place in late April and ending in early May while the big boars are in search of receptive sows. We do not offer any fall Kodiak bear hunts due to the nocturnal activity of the bears during the fall months.

Grizzly and Black Bear Hunting

Joe Gilbert and July grizzlyGrizzly bears are abundant in the Talkeetna Mountains of interior Alaska . Glassing valleys rich with blueberries and migratory routes is a sure fire way to encounter these nomadic bears. We hunt game unit 13, the only unit in Alaska that is open to grizzly bear hunting year-round. However the best times for hunting are June, August and September when the bears' hides are still at their prime. We do offer a late July hunt for those wishing to hunt bears on or near and active salmon stream. Our late July, early August hunt for 2005 lasted six hours, resulting in a 7’9” boar being taken by lunchtime. 13 grizzlies were sighted during the six hour hunt.

Colors vary greatly from blonde to dark chocolate to silver and range in size from 7’ to 9’+. Rifles in the .30 caliber range are best and the .338’s are also very well suited for grizzly bear hunting. Be prepared for hunting condition shots at less than 200 yards. We have hunts available during May, June, July, August and September. Black bear can be incidentally taken free of charge on any grizzly hunt and wolves are free of charge for hunts that take place after August 10.

"Jake and I planned a grizzly bear hunt on short notice. His knowledge of his grizzly hunting areas is very good and we were covered up in bears on Day 1 and I took my bear the same day. I would highly recommend Jake to anyone considering a bear hunt." Joe Gilbert

Al Bartz with '04 grizzlyHunting is done on foot from a base camp. Each day will involve walking 3-6 miles and glassing from vantage points that offer the best chance at locating bears. Hunters should be in decent physical condition and be prepared to carry a small daypack of approximately 25lbs.

In 2004 - 28 grizzly bears were spotted. In 2005 - 48+ grizzly bears were spotted.

Black bear are free harvest as an incidental while hunting grizzly at no extra charge. The client is responsibly to have the necessary state Bert Cahill's 7' spring black beartags. BRHC does not offer any guided black bear hunts that are NOT in conjunction with grizzly or sheep hunts. Black bear in our areas range from 6’- 7.5’, a few near 8’ have been sighted. While black bear are FREE to add to any hunt, these are NOT combo hunts. Black bear is considered an incidental take. Once the grizzly has been harvested the hunt is considered over. If a hunter wished to stay in camp and hunt black bear there would be a flat fee of $1500 regardless if a bear is harvested.

In 2004-10 black bears were spotted. In 2005- 60+ black bears were spotted.
(BRHC hunted new areas in ’05, resulting in higher bear numbers!)

KODIAK ISLAND BROWN BEAR

Most bears will be 9 foot or better!

3,500 Brown Bear call Kodiak Island home. You will find perhaps the best Sitka Blacktail Deer hunting in the world. Spend 10-15 days hunting from one of three rustic but warm, dry camps. Hunting is done basically by foot in three major canyons. The country is generally rolling and mountains are laced with Alder patches and Cottonwood.

Two hunts, spring April or May, fall late October and November. The weather during the spring hunts will run from 30-60 degrees. April you find the fur prime and heavy, hunting a bit more extreme, seeing fewer bears but what you do see will be bigger boars. May finds all the bears out of hibernation. This outfitter will work with muzzle loader and archery hunters.

Fall, October or November means short days, temperatures ranging from 20-40 degrees. Bears are more numerous and you can combine your hunt with Sitka Blacktail. Each deer you shoot becomes a bait sight. If your desire is to book a fall hunt, Bill or one of his consultants will join you. You have a good chance of drawing a license. Patience is important when hunting these Grizzlies which congregate in an area of the river to feed on the last of the protein rich Salmon before early winter sends them to the surrounding mountains and their dens. You could see to see between five and ten Grizzlies during your hunt if you go on the 1st hunt. Some of the encounters and shots have been as close as ten yards so calm nerves and a steady rifle can be quite advantageous! Bill Snodgrass hunted here and harvested a 60, inch bull, Moose. The hunt before us the clients saw 14 bears we never saw a bear.

Trophy bull Moose are generally spotted from the excellent vantage points along the river and are hunted using the spot and stalk technique, and are also "called in" towards hunters as the bulls travel the river's edge and meadows in search of cows and the other bulls that challenge them.

On this hunt, a hunter has the option of choosing which animal, Arctic Grizzly or bull Moose, is their top priority and primary objective. The other animal may be hunted provided you have purchased the necessary big game tag (s) and agree to pay the trophy fee upon harvesting a Moose or Grizzly, as the second animal.
