Before driving the 2 ½ hours from the Rapid City airport to the Goehring-Routier Ranch, Clients stop at a store and buy about $60 worth of groceries - your week's rations, since meals are not part of the hunt package.

Antelope tags are awarded by lottery. In 2002, applications had to be made by Aug. 17 to the Department of Game, Fish and Parks, along with a check for $155 (which covers the cost of a nonresident license/tag). Unsuccessful applicants' checks will be returned.

Private-Land Antelope Hunting

Hunt trophy Antelope near Santa Rosa, New Mexico on over 600,000 acres of private land. Guided hunts, food and lodging furnished. A 50% deposit will be required in advance. This outfitter is in the middle of New Mexico's very best Antelope country. On his 1999 hunt over half of the Antelope taken were between 15.5 inches to 17.5 inches. The rest were from 14.5 inches to 15.5 inches.

On the north hunt, which is August 26-28, you stay out on the ranch. There is an excellent camp cook. On the south hunt, which is September 16-17, you stay at a motel in town. There are excellent guides that are very knowledgeable about Antelope and the country they are hunting.

You will be hunting near Santa Rosa, New Mexico. Santa Rosa is half way between Amarillo, Texas and Albuquerque, New Mexico on Interstate 40. NOTE: THE GOVERNMENT OF NEW MEXICO HAS ADDED A 6.19% TAX ON ALL HUNTS. THIS WILL BE COMPUTED AND ADDED TO YOUR LAST PAYMENT.

Outfitter offers a very high success good quality hunt for Antelope. You can do this either archery or rifle. You must draw a license. Application must be in Casper, WY by March 15. Chances of drawing are very high. We, and the outfitter will assist you with the draw. You will need to put in for the premium license cost is $320.

Archery: The outfitter has a high success rate in taking Pope & Young animals, and hunts the Antelope on property that has limited water. He uses portable blinds on these water holes. The remaining water holes that are not being hunted, they set there and scare the Antelope away forcing them to come to the water hole you are hunting. The down side of this hunt is it is hot in the blind, you need to be willing to sit all day. If you do, your chances of harvesting a Pope & Young trophy will be very high.

Rifle: You will be hunting rolling sage brush and grasslands. You will drive until you spot a herd of Antelope. When located you will use the rolling terrain to do a spot and stalk hunt. Plan on spending lots of time glassing. You guide might have a spotting scope, but you might want to bring one as well. This is also a very challenging hunt for muzzleloaders and hand gun shooters. Your chance at success is very nearly 100%.
